Kota Kinabalu - Day 1

Penat betul on Friday tu. We started our day a bit late. Hubby slept at 5am, dok berborak sakan dengan his childhood friend, Faisal. After Zohor, kita orang keluar cari makan. We ate at a place call ApiWon. I hate the food there. It's almost tasteless. Iman and Iffah didnt like their lunch at all, thus, tak habis makan. Aku pulak dengan tonsillitis yang teruk, it was very hard to swallow. Dah la bangun pagi rasa nak demam. It wasnt a good day at all. Iffah and Iman were hungry before we reach Crocodile Farm. Rasa geram pun ada jugak. But I can understand, food kat Sabah is not something to look forward to. Kalau takat makan seafood, memang best la. Sabah is seafood heaven!

We arrived at Crocodile Farm before the show started. Everyday, they have crocodile show at 3pm and one more at an earlier time, which aku cant remember pukul brapa.Pening kepala aku dengan the kids yang tersangat excited with everything. They were running everywhere. Lin and Faisal, our host, ada 3 kids, Alisa is 17, Malik is 10 and Sofia is 9. Sofia and Malik is of same age with Iman and Iffah. So boleh imagine tak mcm mana havocnya dia orang berempat tu? Adoi! memang sakit kepala la..

The crocodile show kat farm tu memang superb. It's not like the one yang kat Melaka. This one more thrilling sebab dia org yang buat show tu memang berani giler. Kalau tengok buaya yang dia org guna, besar!. Aku yang tengok dari jauh pun rasa serun yang amat. Especially masa the trainers nak suruh buaya tu beraksi. But I think, the trainers hypnotised the crocodile before starting the show sebab the crocodiles nampak mcm blur. Hahahha.. macam la aku tahu kalau crocodile blur rupa mcm mana. Anyway, since aku dah peram entry ni quite a while, I'll publish this with gambar from crocodile farm :D

Safely arrived at KK airport after almost missed our flight due to AirAsia stupidity. The printed departure time was 4.20pm, but the actual departure time was at 4.05pm. We boarded airasia bus at 2.00pm, but we reached the LCCT airport at 3.20pm sebab driver bas tu bawak bas macam siput! Argh!!! Nasib baik la the counter staff faham our predicament, dia bagi jugak check in. By the time sampai kat gate, orang dah beratur nak board the flight. Phew!

Us at Crocodile Farm.

The baby monkey that Iman wants very much to take home. But definitely cannot la kan.

Tengok la trainer ni, berani betul!

I'm in love with Sabah!! I love the place, the people, but I hate the food!!

Trip to KK

Starting tomorrow, the kids will be missing school for 3 days. We're going to KK! yay!! Happy nya aku. I know, we just got back from Terengganu. But tiket gi KK ni aku dah beli more than 5 months ago. Masa tu airasia ada buat promotion. Though I dont have much money, but aku beli jugak tiket tu sebab murah giler. It was selling at RM100 per person for return trip. Aku pikir, kalau tak jadi pegi pun takpe, burn je tiket. hehehe.. macam banyak giler duit aku. Ops! duit hubby.
Tadi aku buat kuih koci again. Cuma this time aku buat koci pulut hitam. I thought kat kedai ada jual tepung pulut hitam. Puas la aku cari merata2, rupanya memang takde jual. In order to buat koci pulut hitam, aku kena mesin sendiri pulut hitam tu sampai jadi debu. Then campur dengan tepung pulut biasa. My sukatan was 1/4 tepung pulut hitam, 3/4 tepung pulut biasa. It tasted great! My mum said it was delicious. Kalau mok aku puji, maknanya memang sedap la tu sebab mok jenis a bit fussy about her food.

Since aku malas nak ambik gambar tadi, maka there's no photo of my koci pulut hitam. Harap maaf ye. Aku cuma nak tayang gambar nasik dagang and nasik lemak ikan aye (ikan tongkol/tuna) yang diambik minggu lepas.

Nasi Dagang

Nasi Lemak Ikan Aye

We went to Kuala Ibai to eat nasik dagang. Gerai makcik ni serves the best tasted nasik dagang in Terengganu. Once dah makan, memang tak boleh dilupakan. Lepas makan nasi dagang kat depan Sekolah Menengah Sultan Sulaiman, we went back home coz it was already Maghrib. Nasi Dagang tu kita orang kena booking awal2 sebab the day before, masa kita orang pegi, it was sold out by 6.30pm. Padahal makcik tu bukak pukul 5pm. Bengang je rasa. This time kita beli terus 15 bungkus, bayar siap2, so that tak kempunan. Since aku dah tepu, dok leh gi doh makang nasik dagang, aku opt to makan roti canai kari ikan aye. Sedap!! Hubby ate 2 pinggan nasik dagang, satu pinggan nasik lemak and took 1/2 of my nasik lemak. Banyak kan?? After maghrib, kita orang pegi ke Shah Bandar jalan2 sambil makan angin.

Iman, Iffah and their beloved Abah. Perasan tak Iffah is holding a comic book? Iffah dengan comic ibarat aur dengan tebing, tak boleh dipisahkan.

Paung Goreng

Aku dah mcm obsessed dengan paung goreng. Dulu masa Iman was about 2 years old, everytime balik KT, mesti singgah kat satu gerai tepi jalan, dekat dengan stadium. Brader ni jual the best paung goreng I've ever tasted. Sebelah kedai brader ni, ada kakak jual cucuk bilis yang sangat lazat. Bila ingat cucur bilis dia, meleleh air liur. But lepas tu, dia orang pindah. Tak tau pegi mana. My quest for paung goreng started. Dunno why, susah betul nak cari paung goreng kat KT. Kalau kat KL, jangan harap la. Mesti lagi susah nak cari.

Last week masa aku balik KT, I tried to look for paung goreng kat Pasar Kedai Payang, tapi sebab by the time aku sampai pasar dah pukul 9am, paung goreng tu dah habis dijual. Tiga hari berturut2, takde rezeki aku nak beli paung goreng tu. Then on friday, the day yang kita orang balik to KL, kebetulan masa nak jalan kaki ke pasar, aku jumpa Abang Arif, cousin hubby kat bangsal depan rumah MIL aku. Dia cakap, paung goreng yang sedap, ada jual kat kedai tepi jalan, dekat dengan bulatan ladang, betul2 depan bangunan Sinar (suratkhabar sinar). Aku and hubby pun apa lagi, terus naik kete, pegi cari kedai tu. And we found the kedai! We were very excited, ingatkan jumpa la paung goreng. Sadly, takde pun paung goreng. Huwaaaa... rasa nak nangis je. Then hubby cakap dia nak makan nasik lemak. Masa hubby tengah makan nasik lemak tu, tiba2 aku nampak ada this one makcik carrying a basket full of paung goreng. Rupanya baru sampai paung goreng tu.

Aku pun apa lagi, borong almost 3/4 of the paung goreng. Memang sedap giler! I love it so much! On Sunday, aku cuba la buat paung goreng sendiri. Erm... agak mengecewakan, tak sesedap paung goreng yang dijual di ladang. Aku wish I can get a recipe from makcik yg jual paung goreng tu. Inti aku tak kesah sangat sebab it's just inti ikan, sama macam inti karipap ikan. Kulit tu yang susah sikit nak buat.

Paung Goreng Ladang

Oleh kerana paung goreng aku tak lawa sangat, jadi aku malas nak ambik gambar. hehe.. sorry ye. Gambar kat atas ni, gambar paung goreng ladang yang sempat aku snap masa tengah tunggu hubby habiskan his nasik lemak. Orang-orang yang tengah makan kat kedai tu pelik tengok aku ambik gambar paung goreng. Hahahah.. biarkan.. Sekali sekala jadi orang jakun :D

Busy, Busy, Super Busy

Aku nak update blog semalam, but I was too busy. My super busy day started on Friday. On Friday morning tu, aku ber barbeque kat rumah mak mertua. Patutnya bbq on thursday malam, tapi sebab korum tak cukup, pastu ayam pulak dibeli lambat, tak cukup masa untuk marinate, maka tunda on friday morning. Pelikkan bbq siang hari buta? It was fun! hehe.. ber bbq kat tepi dapur rumah mak mertua. Rumah mak mertua aku dah lama, according to hubby more than 100 years old, jadi dapur tu jenis yang lantai papan yang a bit renggang. Bila duduk tepi dapur sambil bakar kambing, rasa nyaman je. Tak panas langsung. Am I making any sense to you guys? I guess not.  Kena tunjuk gambar ni.. nanti aku ambik gambar rumah mak mertua :)

Anyway, lepas makan tengahari, kita orang bertolak ke KL. Masa tu dah almost 3pm. Aku pening jugak sebab tak cukup tido, hubby pun tak cukup tido. He slept only for 3 hours the nite before. He is having difficulty to sleep lately ni. I was worried takut dia tak boleh drive. We were in a rush sebab hubby nak hantar his American cousin, Stevie, to the airport. Stevie was supposed to balik malam tu, at 00.05am. We reached KL at about 8.45pm, sempat tukar baju je, terus rushing to the airport. Stevie arrived at the airport late, at 10.30pm. Kita orang yang jauh dari Terengganu ni, sampai pukul 10.00pm. Pastu masa nak check in, bila checked the ticket, rupanya, flight dia 19th March, 00.05am. Bukannya 20th March 00.05am. Mangkuk betul la Stevie ni. Tu la, dok angau bercinta dengan si Maya tu. Grr... letih je rushing balik from Terengganu. Kalau aku tau, kita orang might stay back lagi kat Terengganu.

From the airport, hubby wanted to lepas sekejap dengan cousin dia. So we went to Old Town Kopitiam kat Old Klang Road. We stayed there until 3am. By the time sampai rumah, dah almost 3.30am. Mata aku pun dah stone semacam. Aku tido quite late la jugak, about 4.30am baru terlelap. Pastu by 8.00am, aku dah terjaga. Aduh! Kepala dah rasa weng, macam duduk dalam twilight zone je. Dah ler kakak aku telepon, mintak jumpa kat Pesta Buku. Dia datang from Johore, bawak rombongan pelajar sekolah dia. She arrived at 12, pastu by 3.30pm, dah kena berlepas ke johor. Alhamdulillah hubby terajin pulak, dia nak tolong hantarkan. I had great time bonding with my sister, after few years of cold war. Ermm.. cold war ke? Aku tak puas hati kat dia about something, but now dah ok. I'm so happy sebab our relationship dah ok balik, just like before dia kawin. Kakak aku bawak her eldest son, Yunus. Aduhai! tinggi melangut dah Yunus. Lagi tinggi dari Aunty Shidah dia. Tu baru darjah 6.

Balik dari Pesta Buku, aku keluar to Wangsa Walk dengan hubby. He wanted to get supplements from Vitacare kat Wangsa Walk tu. Aku pulak nak cari buku Kulit Manis and Eclipse (kena ganti buku Nora yang aku pinjam). Unfortunately, tak jumpa la pulak both books. Frust betul. Balik from Wangsa Walk, kita orang pegi dinner kat Restoran Syed, Taman Permata. And here I am now, tengah bertenet kat rumah my mum while waiting for hubby to come home. I'm so tired that I'm not sleepy at all!

Takde gambar aku nak upload today sebab I'm not at home. So aku akan upload gambar kuih koci yang aku buat 2 weeks ago.

Kuih Koci

Gambar memang out. Aku cuba minimize the ketidaksempurnaan kuih koci ni. hehe.. Cuba tengok cara aku bungkus kuih koci tu. Memang fail big time!! Takpe, ni baru usaha kali pertama. Suprisingly, nak buat kuih koci ni, amatla senangnya. Kalau biasa buat onde-onde, lagi la senang sebab dough dia sama je. Inti dalam tu pulak, sama dengan puteri mandi. Cuma bezanya, kena letak sikit santan pekat and bungkus dengan daun pisang. I love kuih koci! Selama seminggu aku buat kuih koci setelah percubaan pertama menjadi. Hahahaha..

Kulit Manis

A twist in the tale

Review by CYRUS KWONG

KULIT MANIS
A Taste of Terengganu’s Heritage
By To’ Puan Rosita Abdullah
Publisher: My Viscom Editions Sdn Bhd 252 pages
ISBN: 978-9834461201

Like many cookbooks, this is a colourful though hefty hardback volume. It also has a title that is derived from food; “kulit manis” literally means “sweet skin” or “sweet bark” and refers to cinnamon, which is a commonly used spice in the cuisine of Terengganu. It is also symbolic of the unity of the close-knit, multi-ethnic community. In homage to this spice, the front cover is subtly graced by a dozen sticks of cinnamon, which are quietly positioned in a corner.

That, though, is where the similarity with other cookbooks ends.Quite surprising for a cookbook, the cover doesn’t feature even a single image of some impossibly well-crafted culinary delight.

Instead, simply and elegantly, it features a centred rustic picture frame displaying a glossy grayscale photograph of a fisherman casting his net into the ocean; this is superimposed upon a background consisting of a simple sketch of a coastal village that stretches across front and back covers.

If you spot Kulit Manis in the cookery aisle in a bookshop, you are likely to think it misplaced and simply skip past it.This is a prime example of why you should never judge a book by its cover, as you would have missed out on a singular and fantastic experience. The title promises “a taste of Terengganu’s heritage”, and it does indeed live up to this statement, featuring a total of 88 traditional recipes, including Terengganu’s famous keropok lekor and laksam.

However, the title is more than just a clever play on words, as much of Terengganu’s non-culinary heritage is also covered.Kulit Manis begins by revealing how Terengganu came to be and how its history links in with the evolution of the local cuisine. It then goes on to speak about Terengganu arts and briefly identifies a few notable personalities. The end of the book is dedicated to describing the singular landscape and natural beauty of Terengganu.

The state’s heritage is mentioned in such detail and scope that were it not for the presence of the recipes, one would never think that this were a cookbook. Just as the synopsis says, the pages are “lavishly illustrated”.

A plethora of pictures – both photographs and drawings – await the reader. Although they are at times overwhelming, you will find that they are as integral to this journey as the written word, conveying what would normally require entire paragraphs through a single image.

This synaesthetic combination of text and pictures is perhaps the closest that one could come to experiencing the state’s culture and cuisine without ever seeing it all in person, or taking a single aromatic whiff or tantalising bite.

Kulit Manis is a warm and inviting read, however, which slowly and gently reels you in.The narrative flows smoothly and is easy to follow; so easy that at times, it feels as though you are casually watching a documentary.

Although ostensibly a cookbook – and indeed, it is marketed as such – I would have to say that it is more a voyage into the heritage and history of Terengganu, with a few meals provided along the way (albeit, meals that you would have to make yourself).

Is this a good cookbook? Absolutely not. In my humble opinion, this is simply not a cookbook.

The recipes, which are often only inserted into a single narrow column along the outer side of a page, appear to be a mere annotation to the centrally positioned main text, which focuses on Terengganu’s heritage in general, with only a minor mention of its cuisine.

They are seemingly thrown in as an afterthought, just as one might abruptly decide to complement a meal with a fine wine. But then, this is, after all, so much more than a cookbook. This book transcends such restrictive labelling and is an insightful guide to Terengganu’s heritage, with a particular focus on food.

If you are looking only for a list of Terengganu recipes and nothing else, you may be disappointed by the numerous non-culinary distractions.Otherwise, Kulit Manis is sure to beckon to anyone who has even the slightest interest in Terengganu, history, culture, or, of course, cuisine.

Disney on Ice @ Bukit Jalil

Abang Zainol bagi 4 tickets to watch Disney On Ice Adventure kat Bukit Jalil on 14th March, pukul 6.30pm. The kids were very excited about it. Initially, hubby was supposed to accompany Iman and Iffah and their cousin, Zulaikha, to watch the show. Pastu last minute, hubby takmau masuk. Geramnnya... Rasa nak cubit2 je dia. He backed off, katanya the skaters dalam Disney On Ice tu pakai seksi sangat, not good for him. Grrr... macam2 alasan pakcik tu. Suka hati la.. malas nak cakap apa2. So aku terpaksa la temankan the girls while hubby waited for us at the food court dalam building to. Nasib baik bawak laptop, so pakcik tu apa lagi, berfacebook sepanjang two hours tu la.

The FREE tickets! hehehe...  aku duduk betul2 depan the ice rink, front row. Woot! happy giler

Lepas tengok the show, Iman cakap dia nak pegi lagi next year. I told her, I will NOT spend RM220 to buy 1 ticket, beli 4 tiket lagi la. So expensive!! Baik aku gi beli handbag leather (handbag lagi.. hahaha). Oh ya! masa tengok Disney show tu, aku nampak Farahin Fahrin. He was with this one lady, aku rasa kakak dia kot, with budak2 kecik 3 orang. Maybe his nieces and nephew. Luckily takde Linda Onn kat situ, kalau tak, mau perang besar kat dalam tu.. hahaha.. He's as good looking as in the magazine. Dia duduk about 2 rows belakang aku.

Tengahari tu, Stevie (hubby's American cousin) came over for lunch with his girlfriend Maya (hubby la yang introduce dalam facebook). Aku masak nasik kebuli, senang nak prepare. This time aku buat tomato salsa to go with nasik kebuli. I bought yoghurt too. So lunch was nasik kebuli, tomato salsa, yoghurt and salad with italian dressing. Sorry, tak sempat ambik gambar food. I was too busy playing host. I like Stevie very much. Hubby was having fun, they talked about their years in high school. Hubby was an exchange student for 2 years lepas SPM. He went to stay with Stevie's Aunt in Maine. We're hoping that one day we'll have enough money to go to Maine and visit hubby's foster family.

Saturday @ home

Mati-mati aku ingatkan today Sunday. Rupanya baru Saturday. Pagi ni dimulakan dengan makan kat kedai Abg Aziz, near rumah mok kat fasa 6. Kedai roti canai tu has been around since aku form 2. Aku ingat lagi, masa tu abah dapat contract supply roti canai kat kolej sunny kat subang. At that time, harga sebiji baru RM0.25. Sekarang dah naik RM0.70 each. Tak kesah la.. yang penting still much cheaper dari kedai mamak. Hubby suka makan kat kedai ni sebab dhal dia memang power. Sapa nak rasa, boleh ler pegi sendiri ye.. hehe..

Tengahari tadi, balik from makan roti canai, aku pegi restaurant yong tau foo kat Wangsa Melawati dengan Wan (my cousin). Since baru je lepas makan, memang sah2 tak boleh nak sumbat makanan lagi dalam perut aku ni. Walaupun perut aku nampak besar, but capacity sangat rendah. Boleh muat paling byk, kalau breakfast pagi, satu bijik roti canai. Makan nasik lemak pun jarang habis.. macam tak caya kan? hehe..

Lepas pegi makan, kita orang pegi Wangsa Walk pulak. Jauh betul berjalan hari ni. Err... sebenarnya, Wangsa Walk dengan rumah aku, dalam 10 minit je. Kalau jalan kaki, definitely jauh la. Aku sempat beli buku for Iman and Iffah, pastu a cookbook for me titled "50 favourite all time dish". It's selling for RM9.90 now kat Popular. Walaupun terlupa bawak duit, dengan muka tak malu, pinjam dengan cousin aku, semata2 nak beli buku.. hehe.. teruk kan? Takpe, jangan risau, dah bayar pun guna maybank2u. Susah hutang dengan orang, kang kalau mati, sapa nak bayar.

Balik rumah tadi, hubby dah complaint, dia lapar. Nasib baik dah keluarkan ikan bawal dari peti. Masa balik Terengganu two weeks ago, mok belikan 2 ekor bawal yang sangat besar. Sekilo was selling at RM15. Sekor ikan berat about sekilo. Imagine la betapa besarnya bawal tu. Aku dah promised hubby nak masak percik. Nasib baik la masak percik tu senang je, main campak2 je bahan dalam periuk. Cuma yang slack nya, tak bakar bawal dengan dapur arang. Kalau bakar bawal atas dapur arang, lagi sedap. Aku cuma letak dalam non-stick griller kat atas dapur sebab malas nak pasang oven. Sorry ye, hari ni another hari malas sedunia, so everything aku nak buat express.

Jap, tengah pikir ni, nak upload gambar ikan bawal dulu ke.. or handbag yang aku beli last nite? Handbag tu buat tatapan kak CS kita. Setelah dipikir selama beberapa saat, maka, aku decided to upload gambar makanan dulu. Sebelum buat apa2, perut kena la kenyang dulu :D

Percik Ikan Bawal

Tuan empunya handbag belum bawak lagi, pakcik ni dah sibuk bawak merata

A Busy Friday

I woke up late pagi tadi. Tengok jam, dah almost 7.00am. Mula-mula rasa mcm malas je nak hantar Iman sekolah, but then yesterday dia dah ponteng sekolah. Dah la next week cuti sekolah seminggu, rasa mcm tak patut kalau aku biarkan dia duduk rumah. Dalam mengantuk tu, aku kejutkan Iman, suruh dia mandi, solat and siap to school. Iffah pun terpaksa la jugak ke KAFA.

Bila sampai depan sekolah Iman tadi, I was shocked seeing budak2 lain pakai baju melayu and baju kurung. I asked Iman, kenapa orang pakai baju biasa, bukan baju sekolah. She said tu budak2 yang masuk nasyid. Tapi yang peliknya, takde sorang pun yang pakai baju sekolah. Pastu aku suruh dia tanya Guru Besar sekolah yang memang every morning will berdiri depan pagar sekolah, greeting the children. Guru Besar kata tak payah balik tukar baju, today dia org ada program maulidurasul. Siannya Iman.. sebab mama yang malas, dia pakai baju lain dari yang lain. Dah la tu, bawak bag berat berisi buku.

About 10am pagi tadi, Otan (kawan masa zaman IRC dulu) sms, kata dia nak datang visit with his wife Enny and their two daughters. Kelam kabut kejap aku. I made roti arab without kuah for them and goreng keropok lekor. It was great seeing Otan again after almost 14 years tak jumpa. I met Enny for the first time. The truth is, aku dah lama lost contact dengan Otan. But somehow, facebook put us back in the same sphere. Alhamdulillah.. Thank you Otan and Enny for visiting. Those yang nak berkenalan dengan Otan and Enny, boleh ler visit flickers Otan, http://www.flickr.com/photos/ownjitra

Later, belah petang, aku and the kids went to McD Taman Melati for Dijah's (anak Otan) 4th birthday party. Balik dari birthday party Dijah, aku pegi Isetan dengan Mas pulak. Niat hati aku just nak temankan Mas je, but in the end, aku terbeli handbag.. huwaaaaaaaa.... I'm poorer by few hundred ringgit. Ni yang susah kalau pegi shopping ni. Mesti nak beli something. Baik duduk rumah je la, but then, duduk rumah pulak, shopping online. Aduh! mau botak kepala hubby aku by the time he reach 50 years old nanti. Sorry ye dear hubby. Pendek kata hari ni, aku sangat busy. Err.. bila masa aku tak busy nya? Manjang busy :D

Masak Lemak Udang Ibu Mertuaku.

The recipe aku dah post before. Whatever photos yang aku upload these past few days, semua menu last week. This week I'm taking a break from cooking. Err... well! Aku still masak, but yang rebus2 je. For the kids, aku masak pasta, pasta dan pasta :D

Karya kedua - Mastura

Dipaksa lagi... huhuhu...

Dunia?

Dunia apakah ini?
Makhluk apakah itu?
Adakah mereka itu manusia sepertiku?
Siapakah mereka?
Dari bangsa apakah mereka?
Tidak pernah kuterfikirkan bangsa yang sehitam mereka..
Adakah mereka bangsa manusia atau bangsa haiwan?
Bukankah haiwan tidak meratah darah dagingnya sendiri?
Kaum kerabatnya sendiri?
Hai manusia, engkau memang menunggu masa..
Apabila tiada batasan antara ikatan,
Ketika itulah ikatan suci dinodai,
Ketika itulah engkau melangsaikan nafsu..
Apabila malaikat menjauhimu,
Syaitan mendekatimu...
Apabila hati putih dilitupi selimut hitam,
Ketika itulah syaitan tersenum kepadamu..
Bagaimanakah ingin dihukumi,
Zuriat yang terjadi hasil benihmu..
Manusia memang mudah lupa,
Selagi keturunan tidak ditimpa musibah..
Celakalah engkau manusia..
Yang mudah rebah..

Nasi Goreng Ikan with Bunga Kantan

I love nasik goreng ikan. Masa kecik2 dulu, mok (mak) selalu masakkan nasik goreng ikan. Selalunya mok akan guna ikan yang tak habis the night before. Almost every morning, nasi goreng ikan la yang jadi santapan waktu pagi. But sejak kawin, aku jarang sangat2 dapat makan nasi goreng ikan sebab hubby bukan fan of nasi goreng.

Last week aku masak nasi goreng ikan for the kids, but with a bit of alteration to the original recipe. Aku add bunga kantan. The reason aku letak bunga kantan was because aku bawak balik byk sangat bunga kantan dari kampung. Belakang rumah mok, penuh dengan pokok bunga kantan. . It tasted like nasi goreng kampung, but minus the sos sotong and kangkung.

Nasi Goreng Ikan with Bunga Kantan

Bahan2
2 mangkuk nasi dingin
2 ekor ikan goreng - dibuang tulang, tumbuk lumat
5 ulas bwg merah
3 ulas bwg putih
3 biji cili merah
segenggam ikan bilis - goreng garing, set aside
2 biji telur
1 kuntum bunga kantan - hiris halus
garam

cara2
1. tumbuk lumat bwg putih, bwg merah dan cili merah.
2. panaskan minyak, tumis bahan tumbuk sampai garing.
3. masukkan telur, goreng sampai telur hancur dan garing.
4. masukkan ikan goreng yang dah ditumbuk lumat dan ikan bilis.
5. biarkan for few minutes, lepas tu masukkan garam dan nasi dingin.
6. kacau nasi goreng hingga rata, biarkan seketika. then masukkan bunga kantan.
7. voila! dah siap :D

Low Blood Pressure

I haven't been feeling very well for the past few days. Bila bangun tido, rasa giddy, macam nak pengsan. Mula-mula aku ingatkan sebab aku tak breakfast. Tapi lepas makan pun, still rasa mcm tu. I was so worried. Then aku called As, mintak her advice. The first question yang As tanya was "Are you pregnant?". hehehe... the answer to that is NO!. So that rule out the pregnancy issue. As cakap maybe sebab anemia, or it can also be low sugar or low blood pressure.

Then tadi aku pegi Klinik Jaya kat Melawati ni. Doctor check, tengok2 my blood pressure is too low. It was 110/60+. Patut la asyik rasa mcm nak pengsan je. Doctor pesan suruh minum 100 plus or ORS, ie, increase my fluid and salt intake. Rasanya aku dah minum banyak air. Everyday, at least 2 litre of plain water and I tried my best to stay away from taking caffeine or carbonated drinks. I hope tomorrow I'll feel much better.

Since aku rasa mcm pening2 lalat bila duduk depan pc lama2, I'll just up the photo of another udang dish yang aku masak last week.

Prawns with Chilies
I was inspired by Kylie Kwong in Cooking with Heart & Soul. Bila teringat her recipe tu, teringin nak buat dengan prawns. Dulu masa Iman and Iffah kecik2, aku selalu goreng squids as Kylie Kwong's recipe. The recipe is very simple.

Ingredients
1/2 kg Prawns - shelled, tinggal ekor je, remove the head too plus the intestinal tract.
1 cup of flour (plain flour tau)
2 tbs chili powder
1 1/2 tbs salt

Cara2
1. Prawns yang dah basuh, lap kering2 guna kitchen towel. If possible guna scott's (hehhe.. buat promotion utk company Anne)
2. Pastu ambik ziploc bag, masukkan flour, chili powder and salt, shake well. Then masukkan prawn yang dah dilap kering.
3. Shake vigorously. Make sure prawns tak pening ye, nanti yg makan pun pening kepala.. hehe
4. Then, masukkan the prawns dalam siever, sieve remaining flour from the prawns.
5. Panaskan kuali, goreng the prawns. Kalau suka, boleh campak cili kering yg dah di potong and daun kari dalam prawns tu utk bagi dia extra kick.

Lunch @ home

Today aku masak nasik minyak hujan panas. Since selalu sangat masak nasik minyak ni, rasanya malas dah nak upload gambar nasik minyak dah, gambar nasik minyak ehsan from Azli. Azura@Roger, Azli and Sally came over for lunch. Azli wanted to makan nasik minyak, kebetulan masa aku masak nasik minyak two weeks ago, he was in Brazil with Roger, part of his tour to South America. So I promised him, balik to Msia nanti, aku akan buatkan nasik minyak lagi sekali.

He was so happy. Siap bagi list lagi apa yang dia nak aku masak to ensure that it's an aunthentic nasik minyak terengganu. Nak gulai daging nasik minyak, sambal belacan, pastu kena make sure gulai nasik minyak tu warna hitam, bukan mcm gulai kurma. Aku cakap kat dia, I only know how to cook nasik minyak the way I always cooked. Alhamdulillah my nasik minyak passed his standard. Siap bertambah masa makan sampai 3 kali. Sally and Roger pun makan bertambah. Aku sorang je tak bertambah coz I think I had it la with nasik minyak. Dah kerap sangat makan, sampai dah tak lalu. My hubby loves nasik minyak, almost every weekend request nasi minyak. Aku masak je la, nak makan lebih2, dah takleh nak telan.

Roger bawak cupcakes from wondermilk. Thank you dear. It was delicious. But aku definitely takan beli la kat wondermilk tu, so expensive!! nangis aku time nak membayar nanti. Walaupun sedap, still takan beli. Azli bought souvenirs from Brazil termasuk la necklaces for Iman and Iffah. The kids love it!

The dishes that I cooked.
Like I said, aku malas nak ambik gambar. But this photo looks so lovely, courtesy of Azli (aku copy from his facebook..hahhaha).

Delicious cuppies from Wondermilk. Thank you Roger ops! Zura :D

Sally minum kopi sampai terlelap.. hehehe

Necklace yang Azli bagi.

Fizzy guarana anyone? It's from Brazil! Thank you Nisa for correcting me. rasanya from Brazil. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Karya Sulung - Mastura

Aku dipaksa untuk post this on my blog. hehehe.. just kidding Mas. Ni karya sulung dia, entah apasal tah tiba2 nak tulis sajak. :)

Sajak untuk bangsa kita.

Bangsaku...
Bangsa Melayu..
Pernah gah di masa dulu..
Ke hujung dunia orang tahu..
Adat yang di pegang sehingga ke hulu..
Bangsaku..
Bangsa Melayu..
Mudah lupa dan mudah keliru..
Secara mudah dipijak di bahu..
Secara mudah mempamerkan silu..
Bangsaku..
Bangsa Melayu..
Kian sedih melihat remajaku..
Tiada susila dan tiada silu..
Secara percuma diri digaru..
Sesama lelaki dan perempuan keliru..
Orang Melayu,
Maruah dirobek, diri dinoda,
Menconteng arang perkara biasa,
Anak luar nikah merata2,
Kerna seks, anak luar nikah menjadi mangsa.

Penarik, Terengganu

Last week masa balik Terengganu during Maulidur-rasul, kita orang singgah di Penarik untuk makan ikan celup tepung. Since Iman was 2 years old, kita org dah start makan kat kedai Makcik A (aku tak pernah tanya nama makcik ni). We've tried other kedai, the best is still kedai Makcik A. Everytime singgah, Makcik A will greet us, tanya kabar, kenapa lama tak datang etc. Dah kira macam keluarga bau bau bacang cuma tak berkesempatan untuk berkenalan dengan lebih jauh.

Normally kalau makan kat situ, aku akan order ikan celup tepung, sotong goreng tepung, keropok  lekor, mee goreng, meehoon goreng and air kelapa. Banyakkan? hehe.. selalunya yang tukang habiskan will be dear hubby. Aku cam dah boring makan ikan celup tepung or ICT.

Sotong Celup Tepung, favourite aku. Makcik A always served sotong yang baru digoreng. Still panas and tak liat! Fuh!! memang best la. Price ranges from RM8-RM14 sekor sotong.

ICT, SCT & kepok lekor.
Lepas kenyang makan ICT, SCT, kepok dan macam2 lagi, kita orang berlibur (hahaha.. rasa nak tergolek bila tengok aku guna perkataan berlibur) kat tepi pantai. From pantai kat Penarik tu, boleh nampak jelas Pulau Redang. Aku love pantai kat situ sebab laut dia kaler emerald. Cuma kat situ takleh mandi, bahaya. Actually, pantai kat East Coast memang tak sesuai untuk bermandi manda. Kalau nak mandi jugak, kena tanggung risiko. I would rather not.

Cantikkan pantai kat Penarik ni?

As usual, Iman akan sibuk mencari seashells or kutip pasir halus.

Iffah, dah besar anak mama sorang ni.

Bot-bot kecik belong to nelayan yang tangkap ikan di persisiran pantai. Normally kalau musim ombak besar, dia orang tak turun ke laut sebab bahaya. Aku suka beli ikan from them sebab ikan guarantee fresh!

Crumb Prawns

This week adalah minggu udang sedunia. Maka, masakan for the next few days will be prawn/seafood. Aku teringin nak buat Nasi Udang as per recipe yang Mok belajar from Arwah Makcik Rahmah. But since kita orang on exercise program, takleh la nak makan merapu2. Kalau masak Nasi Udang, definitely akan makan byk nanti.

Today aku a bit malas sikit. Cuaca yang panas buatkan aku rasa rimas nak duduk dapur lama2. Dah la semlm aku kena migraine teruk. After a relapse of 1 month, migraine ku datang kembali. Aku rasa the reason was because aku berdiri di bawah sinaran matahari, pukul 1pm, for more than 10 minutes sebab tunggu Iman. Now sekolah Iman and Iffah dah ada new rule, parents tak boleh masuk ke kawasan sekolah (unless ada urusan, of course!). So sesapa yang nak ambik anak tu, kena tunggu luar pagar. My mistake was that aku lupa nak bawak payung. Balik rumah semalam, aku dengan bangganya cakap kat Hubby that aku tak sakit kepala pun walaupun berdiri tengah panas. Tak sampai sejam cakap mcm tu, terus sakit kepala.. huwaaaaaaaaaa.... mulutku yang celupar.

Satu hari semlm aku sakit kepala yang amat. Alhamdulillah bangun pagi tadi I felt better. Kalau still sakit kepala lagi, alamatnya Iman and Iffah kena ambik MC la. Eh! logic ke? Mak sakit, anak pulak ambik MC. Terpaksa.. hehehe.. ye la, kalau aku sakit, sapa nak mengantar and mengambik the girls. Terpaksa la ponteng sekolah. Iman and Iffah kena la selalu doakan mama dia org tak kena migraine. Ermm.. makes me wonder, ke dia org doa otherwise? A perfect reason not to go to school.. hahaha..

Back to Crumb Prawns tu. Ni recipe main campak2 je. I'm the kind yang tak suka ikut recipe sebijik2 (rasanya aku dah pernah mention this before). Semlm masa tengok Chef at Home kat AFC, Ch703, the chef cakap, cooking is about being creative. Just plan on what you want to cook, the how method will come later. Aku memang mcm tu. Selalunya aku akan thaw apa yg aku nak masak, for example, ayam or daging or ikan or any seafood. Then bila dah puas menatap wajah my poultry or meat or seafood, baru la keluar idea nak masak apa which will be based on apa barang yg ada kat dapur. But of course, some dishes, mcm masakan traditional, still memerlukan recipe. :)

Crumb Prawns
Ingredients
1/2 kg Udang sederhana (size M) yang fresh - buang kepala, remove their intestinal tract and  kulit.
breadcrumbs - I used Japanese breadcrumbs yg jual kat Jusco.
2 biji telur - pukul sampai kembang (normally aku guna just egg whites, but this time nak try guna whole eggs)

cara2
1. Panaskan minyak
2. Celup udang dalam telur pastu coat dengan breadcrumbs.
3. Goreng hingga garing.

note : I didnt add any seasoning sebab udang fresh dah ada rasa. Mine rasa manis and pejal sebab ni udang yang aku beli kat tepi pantai. :)

Jungle Trekking @ Gunung Tebu

On Saturday morning, Abe (my younger brother) ajak gi jungle trekking kat Gunung Tebu. Wah! biar betul Abe ni. Aku punya la lama tak gi jungle trekking, rasanya the last was masa kat Ausmat. Brapa tahun tu? Rasanya more than 15 years.. hehehe.. Ni ada hati nak panjat Gunung Kinabalu in October. Sally! I'm having 2nd thought now..

Anyway, back to jungle trekking tu. Aku was quite suprised that Iman and Iffah nak ikut. Anak-anak aku ni budak bandar, tengok spider je, dah terjerit. Risau jugak nak bawak masuk hutan. Dah la hutan ada mcm2 pantang, and aku believe in those pantang larang tu. Ye la, kita ni, kalau masuk rumah orang, mulut mana boleh celupar, kang terasa hati tuan rumah tu. Same goes with masuk hutan, kena jaga mulut, tingkah laku sebab banyak makhluk hidup dalam hutan tu, it's their house. Kita kena la hormat.

Pagi tu Abe sent anak2 dia pegi rumah his MIL coz his wife, Nora, pun ikut sama. My cat ie dear hubby, refused to come along, dia tunggu kita orang kat air terjun Lata Belatan je. Mula2 bengkak jugak aku sebab dia takmau ikut. Tapi dia tu penakut betul dgn spider, so aku paham la kalau dia takmau masuk hutan.

A beautiful baby snake.

Takut jugak tengok mula2 sebab aku tau, kalau binatang/insects yg colourful, maknanya sangat bisa. Walaupun anak ular, still sangat bisa. Iman and Iffah were very excited but scared at the same time. Sama la mcm mama dia org :)

Pokok yang nampak mcm otak manusia. Cantiknya alam ciptaan Ilahi.
Trek yang kita orang lalu

Iffah suddenly realised that she left her mama alone.

Ni masa nak turun ke arah air terjun.

Nasi Goreng Udang

Mula-mula ingat nak tulis entry on my trip back to Terengganu, tapi rasa penat yang amat pulak. So kita habiskan dulu la my cooking photos. Ni nasik goreng yang dimasak minggu lepas. Semalam balik rumah MIL, kena masak Nasi Telur, recipe turun temurun hubby's family. Aku malas giler nak masak sebab rasa terlalu penat, tapi terpaksa jugak masak sebab MIL dah request. Unfortunately takde gambar, aku lupa nak ambik. Aku plan nak masak lagi next week. Nanti will up the photo.

Here we go, nasi goreng udang yang dimasak menggunakan udang fresh dari Beting Lintang.
