Another Kimbap Day

I have this one bad habit, bila dah suka something, aku akan buat dan buat dan buat sampai la aku muak makan benda tu. Selagi aku tak muak makan, then aku akan buat. Walaupun anak2 dan suami aku dah muak and sit at the dining table with a bucket (untuk muntah lepas makan). Hahahahha.. I was exaggerating, takde la sampai macam tu sekali. This week aku dok sibuk buat karipap ikan and now kimbap.

Aisey! sapa la nak makan kimbap yg banyak macam ni? Dah la iman and iffah are sleeping at their nenek's house, maka tinggal la aku and Hubby berdua, oh ya! bersama Makcik Ton too.

Talk about maid, baru teringat, today aku baca berita yang tersgt la horrifying-nya. Ada this one Chinese lady, kena pukul dengan maid dia, sampai kena masuk hospital and stitch more than 100 stitches. Makcik Ton akan buat macam tu kat aku ke? Hopefully tak la. Makcik Ton has been staying with my family for more than 22 years, rasanya insyaAllah takde la sampai hilang akal macam maid Chinese lady tu.

Aku wonder apa yg that Chinese lady dah buat sampai maid dia dendam sampai mcm tu sekali. Ngeri sungguh!

Kimbap

Hari ni teringin nak makan kimbap. Tengahari tadi after Iman & Iffah balik from their KAFA, aku pegi Saeme Mart kat Ampang dengan adik aku Mas. Aku kindda comfortable shopping kat Saeme Mart tu sebab dah kenal ahjuma (owner) kat kedai tu. So masuk je kedai dia, aku mintak barang2 untuk buat kimbap. Since dia dah tau aku takleh makan pork, or anything non halal, so senang la.

Dia bagi aku seaweed sheet, pickled raddish, pickled vege (tak tau nama) & fishcake sheet. Macam2 boleh letak dalam kimbap tu termasuk la telur, sausage, zucchini dan lain2. Kimbap ni lebih kurang sushi, cuma bezanya dalam nasi sushi, kena add vinegar and sugar. But dalam nasi kimbap, kena add sesame oil and korean salt.

Maangchi's version of Kimbap

Tuna Kimbap

Ingredients:

(2-3 servings)

  1. Prepare about 5-6 cups of cooked rice in a large bowl
  2. Make your mixing sauce by mixing up ½ tbs sugar, 1 ts salt, and 1 tbs of vinegar until the liquid looks clear
  3. Mix rice with the mixing sauce and stir it evenly. Set it aside for now.

Prepare a large plate to arrange all ingredients for kimbap

  1. Make seasoned tuna flakes
    1. Open a can of tuna and remove the oil or water. Put it on a heated pan and drizzle some sesame oil over it. Toss it and cook it for 2 minutes
    2. Add 1 tbs of soy sauce, ½ tbs of sugar, 1 clove of minced garlic, and 1 ts of ground black pepper.
    3. Keep stirring for another 3 minutes.
    4. Turn off the heat and add 1 chopped green onion, 2 ts of sesame oil and 1 tbs of toasted sesame seeds.
  2. Place 3 yellow radish pickle strips on the plate.
  3. Place 3 pieces of crab meat on the plate.
  4. Slice an avocado and place it on the plate.

Let’s roll Kimbap!

  1. Place a sheet of laver(“kim”) on the bamboo mat and evenly spread a layer of rice in the center of it.
  2. Place 2-3 spoons of seasoned tuna flakes on top of the layer of rice. Add a yellow radish pickle strip, some avocado, and a red crab meat strip.
  3. Roll it up gently using the bamboo mat.
  4. Remove the bamboo mat and cut the roll into pieces about 2 cm thick and place it on a plate

*tip: prepare a wet cloth or paper towel to wipe the knife while cutting, it will make it slice easier.

Fillings for Kimchi kimbap

If you want to make kimchi kimbap, instead of tuna kimbap, mix the following ingredients and use them instead of tuna:

½ cup of chopped Kimchi, ½ tbs of hot pepper paste, 1 ts sugar, ½ tbs of sesame oil, ½ tbs of sesame seeds, and 1 chopped green onion.

Facebook - Part 3

I'm a FB addict. Yikes! hate to admit it. Susahnya nak tinggal facebook. For the past few days, I've been experiencing some difficulty in connecting to FB. The pages load too slow, sometimes hang, and that really pisses me off. Argh!!! Tension big time!

On a lighter note, Iman managed to get 79% for her math during her PKSB 1 exam recently. For us, it's an achievement. Iman was born premature, at 33 weeks. Initially she had problem reading, focusing in class and always day dreaming. Then we brought her to Dyslexic Center at Titiwangsa. She was diagnosed as having mild dyslexic. She started to read when she was 6 years old. Mula-mula tu punya la susah nak boleh baca, but Alhamdulillah, she managed to overcome that. We were so happy.

Iman loves to draw. In fact I uploaded few of her drawings in FB. If only I can get FB to load faster tonite... zzz.. it's as slow as kereta lembu, geram je.

Urat Jati

Hehe.. sure korang semua pelik, pehal la nama recipe2 aku ni pelik sgt. Ni semua part of Terengganu nye dish yg dah almost pupus. Nak buat urat jati ni leceh, but not seleceh buat Rokok Arab. Kena goreng mcm lempeng, nipis, then kena lapis byk2, baru roll and potong.

Since aku ni suka modify recipe nak bagi senang and tak suka menyusahkan diri sendiri. Maka aku buat style goreng telur dadar Korea dalam Maangchi.com. Nama recipi Maangchi tu Gye ran mal yee, link kat sini http://www.maangchi.com/recipes/egg-side-dishes. Recipe Urat Jati memang langsung tak sama, but aku guna cara yang sama untuk roll.

Oh! lupa nak cakap. Today aku memang flat. So tired. Buat karipap inti ikan lagi, pastu lepas asar tertido sampai maghrib. Aku tak suka tido petang, but was too tired to duduk menghadap facebook.. or buat keje lain. Aku rasa bila dah makin muda (hehe) ni, maka energy makin kurang. Ye la, semalam seharian buat Nasi Telur, today separuh hari buat karipap. Peh! kalah orang bukak restaurant.

Nasi Telur

Pagi tadi pukul 7.00am dah bangun. Sangat luar biasa pada not a morning person like me. The reason kenapa kena bangun awal is sebab nak pegi Pasar Tani Melawati. Today dah janji dengan few friends nak buat Nasi Telur. Pastu Hubby nak jamu his aunt sama. Che' Haq is going back to Terengganu today.

Bila kena buat nasik telur, aku dah pening. Penat nya nak pikir mcm2 benda yang nak kena siapkan sebelum boleh siap nasik telur tu. The most crucial ingredient dalam nasik telur is hati. Some people guna hati ayam, some guna hati lembu. Aku prefer hati lembu. Aku tak suka hati yg beli kat pasar sebab mungkin hati tu tak fresh. Selalunya kalau kena beli hati, aku akan ke Pasar Tani. Rasa memang lain la dari hati kat pasar.

Yang paling tak tahan kalau masak nasik telur ni, bab nak mendadukan hati. Dah la hati tu lembik, pastu kena potong kiub kecik2 pulak tu, smaller than jari kelingking aku sizenya. Boleh imagine tak mcm mana nak potong hati tu kalau hati tak fresh, sticky and berbau la jawapnya.

Anyway, ni gambar yg aku dah ambik few mths ago. Malas nak ambik gambar lain sebab letih yg teramat sgt. Nasi Telur makan dgn kerutup ayam and acar kobis.

Ikan Masak Merah Che' Haq

Rasa macam nak demam je hari ni. Aku dah takleh nak tahan dgn KL nye dry spell. Hari2 rasa sakit kepala and kesabaran amatla nipisnya. How I wish I'm in UK or Europe, kan best.. Now tgh snow. Nak je tumpang rumah Emil kat Zurich, dah la katanya snow lebat giler sekarang.

Anyway, hari ni belajar masak Ikan Masak Merah. Another Terengganu authentic dish. This recipe a bit different than masak asam pedas or tumis pedas. Hubby cakap tak ramai yang pandai masak Ikan Masak Merah ni. Kalau nak makan, kena ada durian and cili padi.

Daging Lemak Putih

Still takde masa nak update blog, busy yang amat. Pagi tadi pegi pasar beli brg2 utk masak. Balik je dari pasar, masak for lunch, then buat Rokok Arab lagi.. letih! Dish yg belajar today.

Daging Lemak Putih



Bahan2
1 kg daging - rebus, potong nipis2, air daging jgn buang
5 ulas bwg putih - mayang
10 ulas bwg merah - mayang
1 inci halia - mayang
1/2 tsp halba
1 keping asam
1/2 kg santan
2 tbs sugar
1 tbs salt

cara2
1. Masukkan dalam daging & air daging dalam periuk, add santan, bwg yg dah dimayang
2. Bila dah mendidih, masukkan asam keping, halba, garam & gula.
3. Utk garnish, potong cili merah dan bwg besar, masukkan dalam daging lemak.

The next few days, I'm gonna learn authentic Terengganu dishes. Semlm masak Ayam Gulai Pedas, today belajar buat Rokok Arab. Rokok arab ni made purely from telur. It's crunchy and sweet. Sekali pandang mcm Apit-apit. But the taste definitely better than Apit-apit.

Ayam Gulai Pedas

Today aku belajar masak Ayam Gulai Pedas from aunty Hubby. Aku suka sgt2 belajar from aunty Hubby ni, Che Haq. Belajar la masak apa sekali pun, insyaAllah menjadi. So far aku dah belajar few Terengganu dishes termasuk la Nasi Telur, Apam Dewa and Dador.

Tomorrow nak belajar buat Rokok Arab, InsyaAllah. Now aku saji gambar la dulu yek. Too tired nak berceloteh panjang lebar sebab hari ni extremely panas. Rasa mcm kena heat stroke, kepala tengah sakit.

Upin & Ipin

Semlm bawak anak2 pegi tengok cerita Upin & Ipin. Mula-mula nak book online, pastu tried few cinemas, TGV, Cineleisure, Golden Screen & MBO, semua full. Aku dah suspen sebab dah janji dengan the kids nak tengok Upin & Ipin. Last sekali, ajak Hubby pegi MBO kat Galaxy Ampang. Pergh! ramai giler orang beratur nak beli tiket. Aku kena beratur more than 1/2 hour. Alhamdulillah dapat jugak tiket akhirnya. Phew! lega.



Aku beli tiket 5.15pm. Initially, plan tgk movie cuma aku, iman & Iffah. Pastu teringat pulak kat Zuleikha, anak sedara Hubby. So aku pun belikan tiket untuk dia sama. Jauh Hubby kena ambik Zuleikha, kat Bangsar. Kesian Hubby aku. Takpe la, berkorban untuk kakak dia sebab kesian pulak kat his sister kalau nak datang Melawati semata2 nak hantar anak dia sorang tu.

Lepas tengok Upin & Ipin, dah almost maghrib. By the time sampai rumah, the kids dah lapar. So terpaksa la Mama masak. Adeh! letihnya.. dah la seharian keluar. Our dinner yesterday...

Creamy Seafood Carbonara

Ingredients
3 tbs butter
3tbs flour
3 cups of frest milk
1/2 cup of cheddar cheese
1/2 cup of mozarella
salt & pepper
seafood

Cara2.
3 tbs butter, panaskan, bila dah cair, masukkan 3 tbs flour, then goreng, remove from heat, masukkan 3 cups of fresh milk. then stir, pastu bring to boil, slow the heat, kacau til it's thick. in another saucepan, masukkan 1/2 tbs butter, then saute garlic, masukkan prawn and clam. pastu bila dah 3/4 cook, masuk dalam sauce tadi. pastu stir, grate cheese, salt and pepper to taste. voila! dah jadi.. best giler :)

Baked BBQ Chicken Wings



Ingredients
1 kg of chicken wings
3 tbs dark soy sauce
3 tbs sweet soy sauce
4 tbs honey
4 tbs worchestershire sauce
salt

kalau nak rasa lain sikit, add bwg putih, halia and bwg merah yg dah diblend. marinate abt 3-4 hrs

Pizza Bun

For the past few days, dapur rumah aku dah bertukar menjadi bakery. This is Iffah's favourite. Aku tried few basic sweet dough recipes. This one using Mat Gebu's recipe. Thank you Cik Mat :)

Sausage yang aku guna tu not the frankfurter yg ada jual kat supermarket. This one is gourmet sausage. Kebetulan masa aku gi Tesco Ampang, the sausages were sold at 70% off their normal selling price. Selalunya about RM7-9 for 4 pcs, masa aku beli tu price ranges between RM1.60-RM2.20. Memang murah, dan sedap! :D

Facebook again

Tadi dok sibuk2 bakar roti, tak sedar my hubby dah update his FB status.

It started with this

"Fadil doesnt celebrate Valentine's Day..but he celebrates his wife everyday..he's so lucky that it's almost unfair :)"

Then after few comments from his friend, he wrote this

"For a notty guy as nasty as I am, having this wonderfully loving person makes me feel blessed. On days that I thought God has forsaken me, all it takes is for me to go home to her eyes that radiates honest love, loving support, accepting my shortcomings unconditionally...then I realized how much God loves me..I am so lucky bro, it's almost unfair..:)"

Erm... boleh caya ke? I guess Valentine's Day came early this year for me :)

I never celebrated Valentine before, don't intend to in the future. .... Masa sekolah dulu, time Valentine, ramai la pet sister yg bagi apple or chocolate pada kakak2 yang dia org minat. Aku ada jugak dapat few, tak sangka wanita brutal mcm aku ni pun, ada adik2 yang minat... hehe

Buns For Kids

Pagi2 lagi aku dah menyaksikan kematian seekor tikus gemuk. My maid managed to capture sekor tikus gemuk kat dapur. Aku rasa tikus ni ada rupa Gus dalam cite Cinderella, gemuk dan boyot. Since rumah aku ni rumah lama, so tikus pun byk. Dah byk kali tangkap pun, ada lagi saki baki tikus yang tinggal. Habis kabinet rumah aku kena gigit.

Aku mcm pelik, pesal kat oversea takde la pulak problem tikus. Masa aku duduk Tasmania dulu, jangankan tikus, cicak pun takde. Lipas pun aku tak pernah nampak. Bahagia hidup aku time tu. Aku geli tengok binatang yang perut lembik seperti cicak, tikus, katak dan yang sewaktu dengannya.

Enuff of cicak and tikus, today nak cakap pasal bread and buns. Semlm teringin sangat nak makan homemade roti, so aku pun cari la recipe dalam internet. Jumpa recipe Alex Goh. Aku tak suka sgt texture roti ni, my Hubby kata rasa mcm roti paung (roti terengganu) and pada aku, bun ni a bit sweet. Maybe lepas ni aku kena modify recipi tu. My kids love it nontheless. :)

Tuna Bun, Crab Meat Bun & Sweet Bun



Recipe - by Alex Goh

A)
480 gm bread flour
120 gm plain flour
110 gm castor sugar
20 gm milk powder
4 tsp instant yeast

(B)
1 egg
300 ml cold water

(C)
60 gm unsalted butter
10 gm salt

Method

1. Mix (A) till well blended. Add (B) to form a dough. Add in (C) and knead until dough is elastic and smooth.
2. Gather dough to form a ball and cover dough with cling wrap and let it rest for abt 50-60 mins or double in size.
3. Divide dough into portions of 60 gm each. Shape into balls and leave it to rest for abt 10 mins. Roll out dough and wrap with desired fillings. Shape as required and let it proof on lined or greased baking tray for another 50-60 mins or until dough is double in size.
4. Apply egg wash (1 beaten egg) on dough and sprinkle some shredded cheese on it. Bake dough at 180-190ºC for abt 12 mins.

Cucur Ikan Bilis + Udang Kering

Pagi2 lagi aku dah bangun sebab hidung iman berdarah. Whenever the weather is on the extreme side like yesterday, pagi panas, petang hujan, Iman will have that problem. Lately, hidung Iman berdarah quite frequent, almost everyday.

Aku dah bawak Iman pegi jumpa ENT specialist, doctor cakap takde apa2 except that vein kat dalam hidung dia senang rupture. A friend suggested to go for laser treatment, bakar vein tu, but erm... should I? Nanti la aku pikirkan.

Anyway, pagi ni, aku buat cucur ikan bilis campur udang kering and coffee for breakfast. The kids pegi sekolah bawak bekal nasik lemak yang aku beli dekat sekolah KAFA dia org. Utk Hubby, kena la masak, sebab dia dah tak suka makan nasik lemak. Ye la, dalam usaha dia nak kuruskan badan, terpaksa la.

2 cups of self-raising flour
1/2 cup of all purpose flour
air tak sure sukatan, but not suppose to add byk sgt sebab nanti cair
daun bawang + daun sup
3 tbs ikan bilis
2 tbs udang kering
udang basah
1 tbs stock ikan bilis
1 tbs salt

A busy Sunday - Part 1

Pagi2 lagi aku dah bangun. Since aku ni bukan a morning person, so kalau boleh bangun pagi tu, kira dah bagus la. I have to do some shopping today, tu yang nak kena bangun pagi. Tesco Ampang bukak pukul 8am, wanted to go at 8am, but as usual, bila dah bukak PC, maka segala rancangan kena put on hold. Last sekali pukul 10am baru la terhegeh2 nak pegi.

Today the plan was to make a suprised Bday party for my mum. She was 61 yrs old last thursday. Mok (I call her Mok because Mok = mak but in terengganu dialect) dah tahu that today nak buat Bday party for her, so dah tak suprise la. Potong stim jek adik aku sorang tu. Bising sangat..

Balik from Tesco, berkobar2 nak buat agar2 pelangi. But tak jadi sebabnya aku ni bukan seorg yang patient, my patience was wearing thin masa dok tunggu lapisan bawah keras, it resulted in agar2 bermacam2 kaler, without the layers. Hampeh!! frust jek.

Aku terpaksa upload gambar yg dah lama sebab takde simpan gambar mok yg baru dalam PC ni.

Bulgogi Craze

Dunno why, bulgogi seems to be the in thing for my family nowadays. The kids will always ask for bulgogi for their dinner. Of course ler takleh makan daging banyak. Baru ni masa balik kampung, their aunts and nena (nenek) dok sibuk kata the kids gemuk. Erm.. I think they look ok. Takan la nak kena suruh dia org berdiet pulak, they're not even 10 yrs old.

I was forever thin masa kecik dulu. I think masa form 5 dulu, berat tak sampai 45kg. Kalau kira BMI, memang underweight. Tak tau kenapa my kids chubby a bit. I wouldnt say they are gemuk sebab they still can fit into clothes that are meant for their age. But their aunts and nena, belah my husband, a bit worried tgk my kids bulat. Maybe sebab my hubby used to be gemuk masa kecik dulu. So takut ada gene gemuk.. hehe. Given pulak aku ada darah pakistan, so lagi la.

Since today I'm a bit busy, nak pegi Chilli's dengan Sally, Nito, Syamsul and Rambo, so tak boleh la nak karang blog ni panjang2. Will talk about Chilli's tonite. Today just nak upload gambar dinner dengan bulgogi AGAIN! I still owe iman a Truffle.

Kek Batik Jawa - Recipe

Kek Batik Jawa


bahan A
12 oz butter
1 1/2 cup of sugar
8 eggs (size B)
1/2 tin of condensed milk
2 tbs vanilla

bahan B
1/2 cup nestum
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup milo
1 1/2 cup water
700gm biskut marie

cara2
1. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, condensed milk and vanilla.
2. Pastu tuang A dalam B, then kacau.
3. Masak atas api, slowly kacau sampai pekat. Mcm mana nak tau whether dah boleh tutup api ke tak? Bila dah likat mcm nestum campur air, then boleh la tutup api.
4. Tuang the mixture dalam bekas, pastu patah 4 biskut marie sampai habis. kena gaul and tekan biskut marie tu. pastu sejukkan, masuk dalam peti dalam 2-3 hrs.

Kek Batik Jawa

Hari ni just nak upload gambar kek batik jawa. I made this few days ago. Adik aku yg bongsu tu tak sabar2 nak makan. So terpaksa la mlm2 buta menjalankan project kek batik. Senang je pun nak buat, maybe paling lama pun, 1/2 jam. Kalau dah pro mcm aku, dalam 20 minit.. hehe.. perasan la pulak :P

Slumdog Millionaire

Layan tgk cerita Slumdog Millionaire, best giler! Aku suka Jamal masa kecik, while they were living in the slum. Sanggup terjun lubang najis semata2 nak dapat autograph Amitabh Bachchan. Tu gara2 abang dia Salim yang sakit hati sebab Jamal lambat keluar dari toilet tepi sungai.

Teringat pulak masa aku kecik2 dulu. Kat dalam bilik atuk aku pun ada toilet mcm tu. I dunno why. Ni toilet yang jenis angkat papan lantai, ada lubang kat situ, then do ur business there.

Tengok how people live in India, rasa bersyukurnya that aku lahir kat Malaysia. Bersyukur aku ada rumah and kereta, tak payah susah payah nak kena cari makan kat timbunan sampah sarap mcm countries like India, Philippines or Indonesia. Tak boleh imagine mcm mana hidup mcm dia orang, must be a very hard life for them.

Ayam oh Ayam

Bila ingat ayam KFC, dah rasa tak lalu nak makan. Mula2 excited jugak, dapat makan KFC for free, after a while, nak tgk pun dah tak selera. Kalau la Upin & Ipin tu wujud, maka takde masalah aku nak dispose ayam2 KFC tu.

Adik aku yg bongsu keje KFC sementara tunggu result. So bila time dia closing je, maka byk la ayam yg dia bawak balik. Tak selalu pun dia bawak balik ayam dgn byk, normally dalam 3-4 ketul leftovers. But these past few days, dia bawak balik more than 8 ketul. Peti sejuk rumah aku dah tukar jadi mini KFC bar. Penuh dengan ayam KFC.. zzz

Semalam aku dah buang more than 4 ketul, maka today, tak boleh la membazir lagi. Punya la ramai orang kat African countries yang takde makanan, aku pulak sesuka hari membazir. Today aku decided to buat Meehoon Sup Ayam KFC.. hehe.. bunyi cam gempak je.

Walaupun gambar aku ambik tak lawa, tapi rasanya memang sedap sgt2! hehe..


Meehoon Sup Ayam KFC




bahan2
10 ulas bwg merah - hiris halus
5 ulas bwg putih - ketuk, cincang halus
1 inci halia - hiris halus
4 tbs rempah sup adabi or apa2 brand sekali pun
2 tbs chicken stock
12 cups air
3 tbs salt
2 tbs sugar

cara2
1. Tumis bwg merah, bwg putih, halia sampai garing.
2. Masukkan rempah sup, goreng kejap, then masukkan air.
3. Bila dah menggelegak, masukkan chicken stock, salt & sugar.
4. Perlahankan api, bila dah pekat, boleh tutup

Sambal Kicap
1/2 cup of kicap manis
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbs sugar
cili padi
1/4 cup of bwg putih goreng

bahan2 kat atas tu semua masuk blender, and blend sampai hancur.

Aku makan meehoon tu dgn sambal kicap, kacang goreng, daun bwg/sup yg dah dihiris & ayam KFC yg dicarik. Yummy!!
