Seized 'fake' eggs were deformed or rejected ones

PUTRAJAYA: The allegedly 'fake' eggs seized from the Pulau Tikus wet market in Penang were merely deformed or rejected ones not cleared for sale to consumers, Veterinary Services Department director-general Datuk Dr Abd Aziz Jamaluddin said.

This was based on the department's own tests, he added.
Dr Aziz also said there were no 'fake' eggs in the local market, adding that it was far more costly to produce convincing fakes than natural eggs.

"Give me one sample that shows that an egg is fake and that will make my day.

"Maybe there are fakes in the market but we have no samples," he told a press conference here Monday.
He said the department was in discussions with the Federation of Livestock Farmers' Associations of Malaysia to come out with a standard of accreditation to allay consumers' fears "once and for all".
This, he added, would remove any doubts in consumers' minds over the quality of eggs they were buying.
Dr Aziz also reminded that it was illegal under the Animals Act 1953 to import eggs without a licence.

Coffee & Walnut cuppies!

The truth is, aku tak ingat where I get the recipe for my Coffee & Walnut cake! Argh! dah try search balik, couldnt find it. I still have the recipe. So, I'll just post recipe yang lebih kurang sama dengan the one that I used ye. Basically, kalau tengok the coffee & walnut cake recipes dalam net, semua lebih kurang je. I like mine to be less sweet sebab aku kan dah manis leting (muahahaha.. sila muntah dengan kadar segera), maka kena la kurangkan gula. Kurangkan gula dalam makanan, lebihkan gula dalam senyuman. :P

The cuppies I made semalam. Pagi2 lagi, dah meroyan, buat cake. Sebenarnya, sekarang ni, bila aku stress, aku buat cake. Aiyo! rasa risau jugak sebab I dont wanna end up being fat again. Tapikan, the cakes yg aku buat selama ni, aku sedekah2 kan kat orang. Semalam, masa dinner kat rumah my mom with all my siblings minus my mom and dad, aku bawak the red velvet cake yg aku buat. They love it! Dia org tak caya yg aku buat sendiri. Ishk! ada ke patut. Kalau mcm tu, aku merajuk la, taknak buat lagi. Acah je! Berebut-rebut anak2 sedara aku makan the cuppies. Seronok tengok. Coffee & Walnut Cake

Ingredients
·         175g butter
·         150g  caster sugar
·         3 large free-range eggs
·         175g Self raising flour
·         1 tsp baking powder
·         2 tbp instant coffee granules dissolved in 1 tbs of hot boiling water
·         50g walnut pieces

For the topping and filling
·         2 tbsp instant coffee powder, dissolved in 2 tbsp boiling water
·         125g of Mascarpone cheese
·         125g of Cream cheese
·         1 cup of icing sugar

Preparation method
  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
  2. Line the base of two 20cm (8in) loose-bottomed sponge tins with baking parchment.
  3. Beat the butter and caster sugar until light, pale and fluffy. You could do this by hand, but it is far easier with an electric mixer.
  4. Crack the eggs into a bowl, break them up with a fork, then add them a little at a time to the butter and sugar, beating well after each addition.
  5. Combine the flour and baking powder and gently mix into the butter and sugar, either with a hand-mixer on a slow speed or by hand, with a large metal spoon.
  6. Dissolve the coffee granules in a tablespoon of boiling water, then stir into the mixture.
  7. Chop the walnuts and fold them in gently
  8. Divide the cake mixture between the two tins, smooth the top lightly and bake for 20 to 25 minutes - the cake should be springy to the touch and a skewer inserted inside should come out clean.
  9. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  10. For the topping and filling, whip the mascarpone cheese, cream cheese, sugar together and add the coffee mixture.
  11. Spread half the coffee cream over one of the cake halves and sandwich the cakes together. Smooth the remaining coffee cream over the top.

If only I were 20 years younger.. *sigh*.. Guess what? Hari ni aku spent my day drooling over Won Bin again with Sally in The Man From Nowhere for the umpth times while Iman and Iffah went to swimming pool with hubby along with their cousin Zuleika. Hubby's sister and BIL, went to watch F1 at Sepang. They sent Zuleika over to play with Iman and Iffah. How I wish I can watch F1 at the grand stand with them too. Dulu penah Abg Zainol offer hubby ticket to F1, duduk kat VIP, tapi, hubby tak suka tgk F1, so, di takmau. Ishk! geram je. 

Hari ni, aku mogok keluar rumah. Malas betul la. Dah la panas yang teramat sangat. Pastu tadi hujan renyai2 kejap. Nak masak pun malas. I cooked nasik lemak ikan aye for breakfast, and sampai sekarang still ada byk lagi. So I guess, it will be nasik lemak ikan aye for dinner too. But, dalam malas pun, I managed to bake! I baked Coffee & Walnut cuppies. Hubby cakap sedap! Aku rasa ok la, better than makan red velvet cake coz I like coffee a lot!

Nasi Himpit with Sambal Ikan

What do you do with leftovers sambal ikan from nasi kerabu? My mum akan tambah extra nisang, serai and goreng balik. Sedap!! That's what I did last week masa buat nasi kerabu. Malas nak masak breakfast for the girls, aku modify the sambal ikan.

 Nasi Himpit & Sambal Ikan. For orang pantai timur, this is how we eat our nasi himpit.

Masa kecik2 dulu, mok selalu buat sendiri nasi himpit. Dia masak nasi lembik dalam periuk, then tekan dengan benda berat overnight. I miss those nasi himpit. Texture nasi himpit tu lain dari sekarang.

For  Sambal Ikan
1 biji kelapa – goreng hingga kekuningan
6 ekor ikan sardine – rebus, buang tulang dan tumbuk lumat

Bahan blend
10 ulas bwg merah
5 batang serai
nisang
Salt & sugar

Cara2
1.      1.  Kelapa yang dah digoreng, di tumbuk lumat dan digaul dengan ikan dan bahan blend.
2.    2Kemudian, goreng balik for 5-10 minutes before dihidangkan

Roti Isi Abon

When I saw the buns at Citra's blog, I fell in love with it. Dah berangan nak buat, tapi tak terbuat2 jugak. Too busy baking cakes. Today, pagi2 lagi aku dah ke dapur menguli roti. Terima kasih Citra for sharing the beautiful Roti Isi Abon recipe. It's so delicious! I made it into small oval shaped buns, so, instead of 7 biji roti, I got 14 biji roti. Almost all gone by now. Sedap bangat! :D

 Sadly, tak secantik roti di blog Citra.

Bakul that I used in here was a gift from my brother Nazri's Japanese foster family. Punya la lama dah bakul tu.

Raina @ 4 Months

Mula2, memang malas sangat nak layan Raina coz I dont want to be attached to her. Tapi, she's so irresistable. Even hubby pun suka sangat2 Raina. Whenever he's home, dia akan kelek Raina everywhere. Raina ni pulak jenis peramah, suka senyum and coo kat orang. How la? I really dont want to have another one like Shariff. Pengsan! (as I'm typing this, Shariff is still sleeping on MY bed! Semalam dia takmau balik rumah mak dia, boleh?? Grrr.. )

 Raina yang sangat comel. Dah pandai gelak. :)

Haa... ni pulak, hasil lepas 4 bulan angkat berat. His arm, without flexing his muscle.

Dinner at Al-Rawsha with Ella

Sorry Ella, aku lupa nak bawak oven engkau. Next week la ye aku suruh sham antar. Thank you belanja aku makan kat Al-Rawsha. Tiba2 je semalam food kat Al-Rawsha rasa sedap sangat. Maybe sebab makan free kot.. hehehe.

 Suka sangat appetizer ni, tapi tak tau nama apa. By the time kita orang habis makan Lamb Madghut tu, baru sampai the appetizer. Hampeh betul.

 Baby Ella (Taufiq) yang sangat comel dan peramah. Suka sangat senyum kat Aunty Shidah. Maybe sebab Aunty Shidah makin jelita kot.. muahahahha... perasan tahap gaban.

Ella mendengar dengan penuh tekun. Aku was distracted dengan bling2 kat atas awning tudung Ella tu :D

Kek Lapis Rempah again

The first kek lapis that I baked kelmarin, dah habis semua Mas (adik aku) bawak pegi office. Hubby said, he wants to eat kek lapis on his free day, which is on Sunday. So aku, sebagai isteri mithali, terpaksa la buatkan kek lapis lagi. What I hate about baking kek lapis is the fact that it takes so long to siap melapis. I started at 4pm, I finished almost 6pm. Dua jam tu bake kek! Letih weh! Memang tobat la taknak buat lagi dah kek lapis (boleh caya ke?).

Sebab kek lapis tu jugak, aku terpaksa ambik Iffah a bit late. Iffah keluar from KAFA, 5.30pm, Iman keluar 6.15pm. Masa aku sampai KAFA, it was already 6.10pm. Iffah dah menunggu dengan air mata berjurai2. A boy from another class, pushed her while she was playing at the school compound. The cut on both her knees were pretty bad sebab dia jatuh kat atas pasir. Dah kena bawak dia pegi klinik, to clean up the wound and ambik injection tetanus. Risau jugak kot2 masa dia jatuh tu, terjatuh kat atas benda yang berkarat or anything yg boleh menyebabkan tetanus.

Tapi, Iffah ni, dia penakut yg amat sangat dengan jarum. Nampak doctor ambik jarum je, terus menjerit2 mcm orang kena hysteria. Terus tak jadi ambik the tetanus jab. Hopefully takde apa2 la. Today, dia dapat MC! Happy sakan makcik tu. Hubby was so damn pissed with the boy yg pushed Iffah tu. He forced me to go to school later, report kat ustaz. Dah tu nak buat macam mana, budak2. Jadi satu hal pulak aku kena pegi sekolah KAFA nanti, to file a complain dengan ustaz kat kelas Iffah pasal that boy. Eeee.. tension je!

Muka budak yang baru lepas nangis. Actually dia berenti kejap nangis sebab mama ambik gambar, pastu sambung balik nangis. She refused to show to the camera the cut she sustained. Dia kata malu la mama upload dalam blog :)

GEORGE TOWN: A woman who bought a tray of eggs in Pulau Tikus had a shock when she found them to be “fake eggs”.
Consumers Association of Penang president S.M. Mohamed Idris said the housewife had brought the eggs to his office after finding something fishy when she tried to cook them.
“She told us that the eggs did not smell like real eggs and were tasteless. It was also of unusual shapes and larger than real eggs.

“The fake egg also had a rougher surface than the genuine one.
“When cracked, there was no sign of chalaza, the structure inside the egg that keeps the yolk in place.
“The fake egg white and yolk quickly mixed together, unlike that of real eggs,” Idris said.
The fake egg yolk (left) is more yellowish than that of a normal egg.

He said after boiling the egg and cutting it open, the egg yolk appeared to be more “yellowish” than that of a normal egg.
Idris said an e-mail widely circulated among the public in Penang had claimed that fake eggs which were common in China, were full of chemicals and sold at lower prices.
Idris also said it would be very hard to tell the difference between fake eggs and genuine ones as both looked almost identical.
“Try to look out for the weird shapes,” he said, adding that his staff members had bought more eggs from the shop frequented by the woman and found them to be “fake”.
A tray of 30 real eggs costs around RM10.50. The fake eggs cost RM11.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism enforcement chief M. Guna Selan said his office had not received any such complaint.

Lepas ni, kalau nak beli telur, kena betul2 make sure that telur tu telur asli, bukan telur palsu. I make it a point of buying eggs only from supermarket such as Jusco or hypermarkets yg besar2 mcm Tesco, Carrefour.

Baking again.. and again.. and again..

My baking mojos is overflowing.. hehe.. Semalam, aku buat kek lapis rempah. Tapi tak sempat nak ambik gambar, kek telah diambik oleh tuan punya kek, adik aku, Mas. Takpe, hari ni aku nak buat another round of kek lapis. Actuallynya kan, kek lapis tu semalam, aku bake 2 kali. Mula2 tengah bake, halfway, aku kena stop sebab kena ambik the girls from school. Balik dari ambik the girls, aku continue balik.

Eh! ada ke orang yg buat mcm tu? hehe.. lantak ler.. ok je kek lapis aku tu. Takde cacat cela, sedap pulak tu. And, as suggested by Mak Qis, aku guna gelas untuk ratakan the kek. It works! Thank you Mak Qis!! At least tak payah aku pegi cari penekan for kek lapis kat Bagus. I went to Bagus semalam to buy cake supplies for Rina tapi lupa jugak nak beli penekan kek lapis tu.. ishk! sign of aging? I think so.. semua benda pun boleh lupa.

Doorstep.com.my

To those yang malas nak keluar pegi shopping or beli groceries, boleh la beli kat www.doorstep.com.my. I haven't try out their service yet. But kawan aku Dina, had use their service before. Some SAHM, without the help of a helper at home, memang susah nak keluar pegi beli groceries, macam aku yg forever free ni.






Barang-barang yang on Hot Deals memang murah. But barang lain, a bit pricey compared dengan supermarket or hypermarket. But I guess, kalau busy, takde masa nak beli groceries, but still nak masak kat rumah, apa salahnya cuba their service kan?

Italian Baked Cannelloni & Gold Coast

Yesterday, my sister in laws balik from their holiday to Gold Coast. *sigh*... aku frust takleh ikut. Tiket kita orang kira burn la.. Frust sangat2, tapi errm.. aku rasa Iman's health is more important. My sister in laws bought easter bunny eggs chocolate for the girls plus gifts that they bought kat Movie World. Masa kat Tassie dulu, aku suka sangat beli easter bunny eggs during Easter. Murah!! Tapi dia orang cakap, sekarang barang2 kat Australia dah mahal. Ye la, mana tak mahal. The exchange rate dah more than RM3.1 for every $1. So, kalau convert, memang sakit jantung la.. Takpe la.. I think I'll try to get another cheap tickets for next year :)

What did I cooked for dinner? Mula-mula baca about Cannelloni ni, kat blog K.Min few months ago. Pastu nampak pulak  Dina's status dalam FB that dia buat spinach cannelloni for dinner. Mana la aku nak cari cannelloni kat Msia ni. Dah puas aku ronda semua Cold Storage, takde jugak. Last2, aku jumpa cannelloni! It was sold at Cold Storage The Mall. Remember the incident masa aku beli kasut sukan tu? Haa.. masa tu la aku beli the cannelloni.

Oleh kerana aku tak penah masak cannelloni before, aku terpaksa la google the recipe untuk masak cannelloni. Initially, aku nak guna tuna. Pastu pikir2 balik, maybe kalau guna tuna, sure banyak leftovers. Maka, aku terpaksa la ganti dengan minced meat. But then, hubby pulak takleh makan daging lembu or ayam. Nak taknak, aku kena pegi Jusco untuk beli minced mutton. I wanted to buy mushrooms too tapi aku bawak duit cukup2 je untuk beli mutton and mozarella cheese. I went to Jusco immediately lepas hantar the girls to KAFA. Wallet pun tak bawak. Ambik duit yang aku selalu tinggal dalam kete je. Aku make it a habit tinggal few RM10 notes dalam kete. Senang kalau nak beli apa2. Kadang2, time keluar without wallet la baru teringat nak beli roti la, susu la, mcm2 lagi. Kalau dah ada duit dalam kete, takyah pusing balik rumah ambik wallet.. hehe..

Recipe cannelloni tu aku dah tokok tambah the recipe from allrecipes.com tu. Suprisingly, the girls love cannelloni the way I cooked it. They said, it tasted better than lasagna. Phew! at least  I dont have to worry about left over. Aku masak cukup2 je untuk makan for yesterday and today. They didnt even know that I used mutton instead of minced meat. Shhhh! jangan bagitau dia orang ye.

Italian Baked Cannelloni

Italian Baked Cannelloni
Recipe adapted from here.

Ingredients
         Cannelloni Filling
  • 3 tbs olive oil
  • 500gm minced mutton
  • 2 onion, thinly sliced
  • salt to taste
  • 125gm of shredded Mozarella
  • 2 tbs tomato paste
  • 2 small eggplant – diced
  • 2 tomatoes - diced
Bachamel Sauce 
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cups milk
  • 1 cup water
Tomato mixture
  • 1 can of tomato paste
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  •  
  • 12 cannelloni pasta shells
Directions
  1. To make the Cannelloni Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, warm oil and saute ground mutton with the onion; cook until meat is evenly browned and crumbly. Add tomato paste, diced tomatoes & eggplant. Let it simmer for few minutes. Add salt.
  2. To make the Bechamel sauce: Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and stir until well incorporated. Stir in milk and bring to a slow boil until mixture thickens. Stir into the meat mixture and mix well. Stir in the mozzarella; set aside.
  3. To make the tomato mixture, in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt 2 tablespoons butter and saute onion until soft and translucent. Add tomato paste and salt. Mix well; simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta, a few at a time, and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; using a slotted spoon, remove immediately to a pot filled with cold water. Lift pasta out with slotted spoon and arrange on a flat surface.
  5. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  6. Spoon a line of filling into each shell, starting from one end and using your finger to push the filling inside of each shell. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, place cannelloni and cover with tomato mixture (step 3) & mozarella
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes or until heated through; when finished baking, allow to stand for 5 minutes and serve.

Haa.. sesapa yg nak join, boleh la. A friend suggested me to apply. Oh tidak! aku memang tak layak. Takat masak untuk makan sendiri kat rumah boleh la. Mau pengsan aku bila kena berdiri depan camera dan beraksi sebab gabra sangat.

Ni Australia Masterchef

Kek Lapis Prune

I'm not a kek lapis diva macam Rima or Zarin. Not even close to that.. Kalau tengok hasil kerja Zarin or Rima, meleleh air liur tatap kek lapis-kek lapis  dia orang tu. Aku rasa one of the reason aku failed melapis sehalus, semulus dia org is that, aku very impatient. Tak sabar nak tunggu batter tu habis, instead of letak sesenduk, aku akan letak 2-3 senduk. Sudahnya, kek lapis aku jadi tebal.

This kek lapis was made last week. Tiba2 je terasa nak buat kek lapis. Tapi telur kat rumah tinggal 10 bijik je, so aku buat 1/2 adunan. Dah siap prepare the ingredients, tiba2 tengok, takde rempah kek lapis. Maka terpaksa la aku drive ke kedai mamak terdekat, malas nak drive to Bagus sebab area tu kalau siang hari, memang jam teruk. Sampai kat kedai mamak, aku cari rempah kek lapis, takde pulak. Argh! Tension je..

Last2 aku beli prune. The 1st kedai mamak yg aku pegi, the prune is selling for RM9.70 per tub. Aku cuma bawak RM8. Adoi! kan dah 2 kali keje. Takan aku nak balik rumah ambik duit pulak. Awal2 taknak bawak wallet. Then, aku pegi kat another kedai mamak, which is the opposite of the kedai mamak yg aku pegi mula2 tu. Nasib baik la prune dia ada yang dalam pek kecik, RM4.50. Phew!

Balik rumah, baru teringat, aku takde the square tool yg orang guna untuk tekan kek lapis bagi rata. Aku called Ella, Ella kata, boleh guna sudip yg rata. Tapikan Ella, guna sudip tak sama la.. seksa aku nak tekan kek lapis tu guna sudip. Kelmarin aku pegi borong butter kat Bagus, lupa jugak nak beli penekan kek lapis tu. Ishk! ni yg susah bila umur dah makin menghampiri 20+20 ni.. Manjang lupa..

 Kek Lapis tak cun

bahan2
10 biji telur putih
20 biji egg yolk
20 ounce butter (grade A butter + Grade B butter eg. golden churn + buttercup)
10 ounce sugar
6 ounce flour
4 tbs susu pekat

prune - potong panjang.

cara2
1. whisk egg whites sampai stiff, then add sugar, whisk lagi.
2. in a separate bowl, cream butter and milk, pastu add no. 1, egg yolks, flour.
3. panaskan oven, kena guna api atas , then bakar selapis, bila atas dah a bit burn, then buat selapis. continue sampai habis. kena letak prune selang seli antara lapis tu.

Not Well, and Still Need to Run

I woke up feeling like I had swallowed fire, my body was burning. My throat was on fire. Just larat untuk bangun and kejut the kids to school je. Pastu tido balik. Hubby sent the girls to school today, just as for the past few days. That has become his routine, supir job early in the morning.

My body is screaming pain ever since I started exercising 3 months ago. Not a day went by without me not feeling any pain. Seksa woo.. Bila sakit macam ni, lagi la amplified rasa sakit badan tu. But, dalam sakit2 ni pun, aku paksa diri untuk exercise. I know, I should give my body a break coz bila sakit, immune system down. Exercising will only make it worst especially weight training that I'm doing right now. Tapikan, kalau berenti, definitely susah nak start.

Anyway, esok I'm running. I'm trying to motivate myself. For the past few days, my water retention has gone from bad to worse. Kalau picit kaki sekarang, boleh nampak dent yg dalam. I think, if I dont have any problem with water retention, I might look few inches smaller kot. I asked hubby for an MC, guess what he said? NOTHING! Weh! It's so unfair la.. how come I cant have an MC?? I'm working too.. I deserve better benefits! Boleh tak kalau aku nak pindah tempat keje? In my case, kena pindah rumah la kan? :P
